The Old Spanish Mine

Utah County was originally believed to be the place of the o’d Spanish mine, but now it has been discovered on Cedar Ridge in Sanpete County filled with sand. A party was recently sent to make investigation. “They dug down,” says the Enterprise, “some thirty feet and their excavation disclosed a flight of stone steps leading down into the mine. The sand like material which the mine is filled up is supposed to be the tailings of an old mill. Some of it was washed by the gentlemen and showed traces of gold. A force of four men went over this week to continue the work of excavation. The parties interested are satisfied they have struck upon a rich mine.”
