The discovery of an old Spanish mine on the south end of the Blue mountains was made by A. J. Strouse of Dolores during the week, and it was believed to be the long sought Josephine mine worked by the Spanish about 300 years ago, records of the existence of such a mine having been found among the old Mexican archives. E. H. Ryan, who returned during the week from Monticello, stated that he had talked with Mr. Strouse, who had been led to the old mine by a spiritual communication from a dead brother. He followed directions and was led to the mine. There were no surface indications of the mine, but a little digging soon disclosed an old tunnel, as well as some old picks and other instruments. The discovery has caused much excitement in Monticello.
